Default Can't connect to Anet.

Hey,
I cant connect to arenanet , it just stops at 0%. Now here are a couple of things I did:

Put gw under expectations at firewall, put all my firewalls off: Didn’t work

Have been running gw for 3 hours nothing happend just 0%

I've tryed tracing it (tracert www.arena.net , at hop 9 it stop and goes * * *

C:\Program Files\Guild Wars\Gw.exe" –diag : It stops at discovering external address

Does this occur frequently these days ?
Haven't been able to play the game for 2 days.
What is the type of your internet connection ?
DSL
Did you install anything in the past two days ?
No
Has your ISP/anyone else changed anything in the network settings ?
No
What kind of modem?
I use Netopia Wireless ISDN ADSL Router with 4-port switch

Just to spare you some questions.
Btw I have 2 computers; on both computers Gw is installed. The other computer uses a router (that’s the computer where gw does work). This computer uses the modem (gw doesn’t work here).

I am from South Africa and have been experiencing the same problems for the past month.

I contacted GW Support, they claim to have a network provider problem and are not able to say when it will be resolved.

I also contacted my ISP (telkom) to see if the problem could pssibly be with them, but according to them my connection is fine.

This problem is becoming extremely frustrating !!!

If the system stops at discovering external addresses It sounds like a routing or DNS issue, both of which will be outside of your control and quite possibly outside the control of Arena Net. All you can do is submit a ticket to inform them of your problem.

You could try using OpenDNS to see if that resolves your problem. That is if you are having a DNS related problem.

This has happened to me for the past several months. Right now I'm trying to reinstall (as in reinstall/repair option) on a whim, and it couldn't connect to anet to do it, so I uninstalled, and am trying to install again... still not working. Any ideas?

Whooohooo fixed the problem !!!!

This is the cause of the problem:

(One of my guildies actually solved this, so thanks to him)

Telkom (my local ISP) put in a transparent proxy to the adsl service, GW by default connects via port 80, so the proxy screwes with the traffic on port 80, in order to fix this you must force GW to connect and use port 6112, this is done by using a personal firewall and blocking all communication on port 80 for GW.exe and allowing communication on port 6112 (for GW.exe).

I used Comodo Firewall Pro (freeware) to do this and it works fine

I've had the same problem, is there any way to fix it by using just the generic windows xp firewall??
what i have found that works is uninstalling GW and then i have to reinstall it. this takes forever due to like the 18000 files. please post me a better way to fix it
